Educational Opportunities and PMP®/CAPM® Certification Prep Course


  1. Which topics are being covered in upcoming events?

    A. Please see the Events Calendar for details about upcoming events. We review ideas for courses throughout the year and welcome your suggestions. If you have ideas for specific courses and/or speakers, please send an email to PMI-MN Chapter Administrator with the subject line “Course/Speaker Idea. Your ideas will be forwarded to our planning teams. You can also contact committee members directly with ideas.

  2. Does PMI-MN offer exam preparation classes for PMP® certification? If so, when?

    A. Yes. We offer courses throughout the year. PMI Minnesota is in the process of finalizing the calendar events for upcoming classes hosted by the Minnesota Chapter.  These sessions will include the PMP Exam Prep class and the Disciplined Agile Scrum Master (“DASM”) Certification class. Dates, times and virtual/locations for upcoming PMP Certification Prep Courses can be found on our Events Calendar.  

    The PMP Exam Prep course will cover topics to help the students prepare for the PMP/CAPM exams, including sample questions. The instructor will also answer questions about how to fill out the PMP/CAPM exam applications. The course is an exceptional value for PMI MN members (at a discounted price), and for non-members alike.

  3. Does PMI offer project management classes?

    A. Yes. We offer seminars, webinars, speakers, workshops, PMP®/ CAPM® Certification Prep Courses, and other educational opportunities in the project management field for members and non-members on a monthly basis. See our Events Calendar for upcoming opportunities.
    Also, please consider joining us for the annual Professional Development Days (PDD), a 4-day conference held each September which includes one-day and two-day courses and a final Symposium Day showcasing several speakers presenting on current project management and business topics.

  4. Do PMI-MN events offer PDUs to maintain my PMP® Certification or contact hours to apply for the PMP® Exam?

    A. PMP® candidates now need to document 35 hours of project management education in order to take the exam. Our PMP Exam prep class will cover all 35 hours.

  5. How much does the PMP® Certification Exam cost?

    A. Please see www.pmi.org for the most up-to-date information about Exam costs and prerequisites. If you are in job transition, your state employment counselor may approve funds from the Dislocated Worker or WIA programs to cover your PMP® Exam fee.

  6. Is there a charge for taking the PMP® Exam if I take the PMP®/ CAPM® Certification Prep Course?

    A. Yes. The PMP®/ CAPM® Certification Prep Course and PMP® Certification Exam have separate fees. For information about the PMP®/ CAPM® Certification Prep Course fees, please visit the Events Calendar to search for upcoming courses. For information about the PMP® Exam fees, please visit www.pmi.org.

  7. Do I need a laptop PC in PMI-MN classes? Can I bring one?

    A. A laptop is not required unless the PMI-MN class description specifies it. You are welcome to bring one with you to class though Wi-Fi service may not be available in all classrooms. Please see the class description for the class you are attending for more details.

  8. Does PMI-MN offer prep courses for the PGMP certification? What does this certification cost?

    A. PMI-MN does not currently offer prep classes for this certification. For information about PMI certifications, go to www.pmi.org. The cost for certifications varies by credential.

  9. How do I sign-up for the PMP® exam? I am taking classes at a local college for project management certification, and want to take the PMP® exam when I complete the required classes.

    A. Online: The best place to find out about the PMP® Exam, application process, and cost is at www.pmi.org. Search for PMP Certification – the FAQs and application form will display.

    In Person: You can inquire about the PMP® Exam and Certification at the monthly Chapter Dinner meetings by visiting our volunteers at the Membership table. Members are available from 5:00 – 6:30 pm to answer your questions. Please see the Events Calendar for more information about the Chapter Dinners.

  10. Is there help for completing the PMP® Certification Exam application? I looked at the online application and could use some help filling it out.

    A. Please contact us at seminar-pgm-mgr@pmi-mn.org with your questions. We will also answer questions during the PMP Exam Prep class, and the instructor will go over how to complete the PMP certification exam application and answer questions.

  11. Does PMI-MN endorse specific courses or class providers? Are there PMI-registered providers?

    A. PMI-MN does not endorse any specific partners, as a matter of course. The requirements for education providers have changed for 2021 by PMI Global and the new designation is, ATP, or Authorized Training Partner.  The classes are taught by teachers who are Authorized Training Partners that have completed “train the trainer” classes.

    The list of approved Authorized Training Partners is being finalized by PMI Global and will be published to their website soon.

  12. How do I renew my PMP® certificate? My PMP® certification is out of date (lapsed).

    A. Please visit www.pmi.org.

  13. Are there assistance opportunities for individuals in job transition or unemployed?

    A. ESI International’s Stand Out Scholarship is making a half million dollars in career development tuition assistance available for out of work project managers, business analysts and general business professionals. The Stand Out Scholarship gives unemployed individuals the opportunity to build a more competitive resume by providing tuition assistance that can be used to cover the majority of tuition fees on up to three ESI courses, enabling them to potentially earn an Associate’s Certificate. Students will have the opportunity to take Project Management and Business Analysis courses in our public classrooms nationwide or online via e-Training or the Virtual Classroom. This program launched on July 1, 2009 and will run through December 31, 2010, or until all funds have been awarded.   14. Can a training or resource vendor demonstrate or promote its products at a PMI-MN event?

    A. PMI-MN offers sponsorship opportunities at its events and on our website, as well as logo placement in direct eblasts and monthly newsletter to its members. Under specified terms, registered vendors and/or companies are recognized at sponsored events and are provided an opportunity to promote services to attendees. If you are interested in being a sponsor, contact PMI-MN Chapter Sponsorship Chair.

    PMI Minnesota Chapter does not endorse specific vendors or classes.

  15. How can I receive the member discount for the PMP®/ CAPM® Certification Prep Course if I am a new member?

    A. If you aren’t showing the member rate when registering, please call our local PMI-MN business office at (651) 917-6246 or (855) 746-4849, between 8:30 AM and 4 PM.  We’ll be happy to confirm your member discount eligibility and assist in ensuring you are registered at the proper rate.  Thank you so much!

  16. Are the PMI-MN PMP®/ CAPM® Certification Prep Course materials available to individuals who cannot attend the in-person course?

    A. No, at this time we do not sell or distribute our PMP® Certification Exam Preparation materials separately from the in-person course held by PMI-MN.

  1. Does PMI-MN offer a job postings board for project management professionals?

    A. Yes, as a service for our PMI-MN members only. Project management and business analyst positions are available in the Member Login area on the PMI-MN website.

  2. Can recruiters and employers post project management positions on the PMI-MN website? My company is looking for a good project manager.

    A. Yes. Job submitters can fill out the Job Postings Form. The posting generally appears within two to four days of receipt. Job postings are available only to PMI-MN members in the Member Login area. Job submitters will be sent verification of the posting.

  3. What does it cost recruiters or employers to post job openings on the PMI-MN website?

    A.There is no cost to post a job opening on the PMI-MN website. Job postings are reviewed and posted if seen to be relevant to project management professionals seeking positions and opportunities.
