Minnesota Chapter of the Project Management Institute
Building Professionalism in Project Management
JANUARY 2017 | Volume 19, Issue 01
In This Issue:
Dear Members,
I wish you all a happy and prosperous new year!
Like the seasons, our chapter undergoes constant change. We had elections back in September. Since then we’ve had transition meetings for our Board of Directors (new, returning and retiring), and our Operations group (our volunteers and service providers). During those sessions we revisited strategies and tactics for continuous improvement of our services for all our members. As a predominantly volunteer organization, “we eat your own dogfood” – a crude way of saying that as member / customers consume the services we produce as member volunteers. Still, our volunteers are only a portion of our total membership, so we also run continuous surveys and measure our “Net Promotor Scores” (NPS) to ensure we are listening closely to all our members. By the way, our NPS improved significantly in 2016! We have a great organization in the PMI. For the last couple of years our chapter has increased the number of volunteers we sent to Region 2 and Leadership Institute Management programs run through PMI global. It is part of our chapter strategy to improve our succession planning and training for the volunteers who make this a great chapter. Our chapter ranks among the top 15 PMI chapters in the world – based on a number of criteria! As a chapter, our greatest strength is the ability to offer friendly venues to network with your fellow professionals. We meet folks from local companies, hear their stories, learn about job opportunities, and have a chance to participate in community projects (like Paint-A-Thon). I’ve brought my spouse (who is now also a member) and family members to events. It’s tough to find a better way to meet up! As Terri Kimball, now Past President (CoB), has stated in previous communications, we will continue to roll out improvements to our monthly member activities (communications, events and web based), increase our chapter and brand visibility, and enhance volunteer engagement. Got an idea you would like to share? Let us know! You can contact members of the Board (including me) and/or Operations – our contact information is on PMI-MN.org under the “About Us” tab. New Member Orientation Sessions (held monthly)
Welcome newcomers and current members! PMI-MN offers a new member orientation session starting at 6:00 pm before each month’s Chapter dinner meeting.
You don’t actually need to be a new member—or a member at all—to attend this orientation session! This is a great way to check out the Chapter. If you haven’t been to many Chapter events (or it’s been a long time), come and get re-acquainted with what our Chapter is all about!
Check the upcoming month’s dinner meeting details on the Chapter website for time and place of the Member Orientation session.
