Let’s talk ethics, professionalism and what it means to be a member of our premier Chapter, the 3rd oldest Chapter within PMI’s over 300 Global Chapters. It’s a privilege to be a part of a cutting-edge community! However, it comes with responsibilities and expectations, both as a member and a volunteer.
When we work hard to earn our certifications or additional education to become a better project or program manager, it takes an immense amount of resources. Additionally, when we become a member of PMI-MN, we agree to be ethical, professional and to uphold an expected code of conduct.
PMI members have determined that honesty, responsibility, respect and fairness are the values that drive ethical conduct for the project management profession. PMI’s Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct applies those values to the real-life practice of project management, where the best outcome is the most ethical one.
All PMI members, volunteers, certification holders and certification applicants must comply with the Code.
Alder Schweitzer states, “Example is not the main thing in life; it’s the only thing.” Ethical behavior is learned. Today’s Chapter Board is paving the way by setting a good example in everything we accomplish. Our actions clearly reflect honesty, responsibility, respect and fairness. This doesn’t happen in a few months – it happens over time.
The Chapter Board is working with PMI Headquarters to be consistent with our Chapter documents and policies, ensuring they’re updated. Contrary to some inquires, the Chapter Board may revise and approve a policy, then implement it at any time throughout the year.
As the Chapter continues to strive for inclusivity and harmony, let’s not forget about why we volunteer: to give back to all members. Let’s also encourage more to volunteer and bring up the next Chapter Leaders so we can gain different perspectives and build upon previous successes. I look forward to seeing you all at our Volunteer Fair on Monday, March 18th!
The Chapter schedules events for project management professionals (members and guests) throughout the year at the following locations: Minneapolis-St. Paul; Duluth-Superior; St. Cloud-Waite Park, Mankato in Minnesota & Fargo-Moorhead, Bismarck-Mandan, Grand Forks in North Dakota.
