Program Description: 

The new 7th edition of the Project Management Body of Knowledge PMBOK© Guide is out. One of the new changes to the standard is the inclusion of the principle of Systems Thinking. This principle requires that a project manager be able to view and understand the project environment as part of a larger system. Systems thinking helps a project manager respond to projects and conduct problem-solving in a complex and dynamic environment. In this presentation, systems thinking and complexity thinking are explained and applied to the project context with an emphasis on working with stakeholders and their diverse perspectives.

Speaker(s) Bios: 

David Swenson, PhD, LP

David X. Swenson PhD is Professor and former Director of the MBA in Rural Health in the School of Business and Technology at the College of St. Scholastica. He is also a licensed psychologist with a forensic practice in Minnesota and Wisconsin and is an organizational consultant with health and human services, educational organizations, and the courts. Dr. Swenson received his doctorate in 1977 from the University of Missouri and his Master's in IT Leadership from the College of St Scholastica in 2014. He has been in the field for over 50 years and researches and presents on systems and complexity thinking in strategic planning, marketing, and organization development.
